How can I prevent the mask from hurting my horse?

Does your horse need to wear protective eye goggles for long periods of time, and are you worried that they might cause rubbing or irritation? Don't worry, it's entirely possible to protect their eyes while protecting their skin. Here are our tips.

Best practices to prevent the mask from irritating your horse's skin:

1. Choose the right size mask and adjust it properly.
   A mask that is too tight will cause pressure points, while one that is too loose may move around and rub the skin. Take the time to check that the mask fits the horse's head snugly without compressing it and that the fastenings are correctly positioned.
   
   
2. Maintain impeccable hygiene.
   A dirty or damp mask is a major source of irritation. Clean it regularly to prevent dust, sweat, or mud from accumulating. Also check that no grains of sand or hairs are stuck between the skin and the fastenings.
   
   
3. Alternate between two types of masks.
   If your horse needs to wear a mask continuously, alternate between two different types. This rotation distributes pressure and reduces the risk of chafing in the same place.
   
   
4. Remove the mask at night (if possible).
   When the horse's condition allows, let the skin breathe by removing the mask at night. This break promotes skin recovery and limits irritation caused by prolonged wear.
   
   
5. Apply soothing and repairing treatments
   For fragile skin, use a soothing or healing cream or spray formulated for equines. These treatments strengthen the skin barrier and prevent the appearance of chafing.
